Author: L.R. Kneebone

Abstract:

After six years of planning and encouraging financial support, a modern mushroom research facility is nearing completion at The Pennsylvania State University. Total costs are approximately $ 76,000. Of this sum $ 50,000 was provided by the State through special legislation, $ 13,000 was provided from federal Experiment Station funds, and$ 13,000 was pledged and paid by the American Mushroom Institute.

The Mushroom Research Center is located on the farmlands of the University, about one mile from the present Mushroom Laboratory on the main campus. The site provides adequate water drainage and natural air movement.

The building measures 60’x40′. It is of cinder block construction with concrete floor and wooden loft area. All floors are sloped to provide for water drainage to a septic tank. Room ceilings are sloped from end to end to provide for better air movement and to prevent dripping of moisture that may condense on the ceilings.
