Abstract:

Calocybe indica first described as a new species by Purkayastha and Chandra in 197 4 is a known species of mushroom which can be more succesfully cultivated during summertime and therefore, designated as “Summer Mushroom”. It has a stout, fleshy, milky white sporophore of moderate protein contents and long shelf life. It has been successfully grown in West Bengal. It is not known if this mushroom can be successfully grown under Rajasthan conditions, in particular m Udaipur.

The culture were obtained from Dr. R. P. Purkayastha, Calcutta University, Calcutta. Experiments were carried out on the growth of this mushroom on different substrates for both growth of spawn and fruit bodies as well as studies on the effect of addition of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to the basal substrate for the production of fruit bodies. The results are presented here.
