Abstract:

In India, Pleurotus sajor-caju (Lev.) Sing, is at present commercially cultivated but has dark coloured fruit bodies. P. cfr. sapidus, a species with white fruit bodies has been cultivated in various parts of the world (Zadrazil, 1978) but has yet to be studied for cultivation and commercial exploitation under Indian conditions. Hence, selection of suitable substrates for cultivation as well as for spawn preparation, optimum incubation period for spawn run on suitable substrate and optimum ecological requirements, like temperature, humidity, aeration and light were worked out for the fructification of P. cfr. sapidus.
