Title: An Investigation on the Requirement for Inorganic Elements by Volvariella volvacea Mycelium
Author: G.L. Khor

Abstract:

Increasingly more studies regarding the science and cultivation of the tropical mushroom, Volvariella volvacea (Bull. ex. Fr.) Sing. have been undertaken especially in such countries as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia where its culinary popularity is well-established. As the nutritional significance of mushrooms gains wider recognition (Maw and Flegg, 1974 ; Kurtzman, 1975; Hayes and Haddard, 1976), it becomes imperative to have a better understanding of the influence, of nutrition on the nutritional composition of the mushroom. This study was undertaken to investigate an aspect of the nutrients requirement, that is, the inorganic elements essential for the growth of V. volvacea mycelium.
