Abstract:
Oxygen Uptake Rate (OUR) is a tool to measure biological activity in a variety of mushroom substrates. Respirometric measurement is conducted within a closed vessel containing the inoculated substrate to be measured. The vessel is incubated under desired conditions over a set period of time. Oxygen is consumed and evolved CO2 is captured allowing data to be plotted in real time. Examples of how this respirometric technology can be used for investigating the effects of various substrates and nutritional factors on growth characteristics of cultivated mushroom species will be discussed.
